Who We Are
The essence of Palmdale UMC by Pastor Jim
We are listening! We are listening to God’s whisper. I have found that the most important information in life comes in the form of a whisper. The more profound the message, the less it has to be sold to you. Have you noticed that when someone wants to sell you a product that you do not need, they shout their message at you. God, on the other hand, brings Good News in the form of a whisper, a baby, a star in the east. When God spoke to Elijah about being brave and returning to his ministry as a prophet, He did so in a whisper.
11 The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by."
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake.
12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" I Kings 19:11-13 (NIV)
In the same way, God has continued to whisper to the people of the
Palmdale
United
Methodist
Church and to me. The message has been clear. God wants us to stay focused on the family of God and the Lord will guide us in our future plans for the
Antelope
Valley. What we have heard in the voice of God is; “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
This does not mean that we are stagnant or paralyzed. Your church has a Property & Master Planning Team that is actively pursuing property for a future site. They have already begun to raise money with a $50,000 which has been met.
In the meantime, our goals for this church are clear:
- We are making a spiritual home for persons of all ages so all can believe in Jesus Christ as Savior
- We are implementing our purposes for ministry through worship, fellowship, discipleship, nurture and mission
- We have small group ministries and along with the Mid-Week Worship.
- Finally, we are trying to be still (patient) and knowing (remembering) who God is…
